What We Offer

Megha Net's concept is in very short based on cheap wireless access to the Internet, by using 2-3rd generation equipment. We want to give always-on access for a fee Indian people can afford.

Mostly this should be a self-running system, and where human interaction is needed, Indian labors will be educated to fill a given position.

Wireless for end-users.

The cheap wireless concept is based on that we want to use standard wireless equipment of 2-3rd generation to connect the end-users.

What excactly is meant by that is that for example, today 54Mbit/s wireless technology (802.11g) is the standard. We belive that we can get older equipment for a nominal fee from companies who are outphasing old equipment, and then re-sell this equipment.

The re-selling of equipment should be completely non-profit. Our business is not to make money on equipment. With current technology, we think that the end-user can achieve upto 11Mbit/s (802.11b) connectivity to the Megha Net station.

You can read a little here about how we want to SolvePublicWireless problems.

Wireless for backbone.

Like the end-user is connected by wireless connections, we also want to setup wireless connections between the different areas that one wireless basestation should cover.

54Mbit/s equipment should be sufficient for this task. We anticipate each location will contain an omnidirectional antenna (16dBI and up) for end-user connections, and a bidirectional antenna for connection to base/piggyback station.

Uplink to Internet.

Currently this is a little fuzzy how it will be done excactly. We are working with different models, which are in prioritized form:

Services on the intranet

Since we realize that the uplink to Internet might not be very fast, and that the idea is to connect many users, we want to setup local services on the intranet, so there will be less need to actually go on the net. Such services includes:

To prevent abuse, all services (except DNS) will be authenticated.
