Information about using IP-phones with Musimi.dk. This is a guide for foreigners who are living in Denmark and would like to call friends and family at home for a cheap price, but who still dont have Danish skills to manage the Danish website.

What is IP-telephony?

IP-telephony is about connecting a phone to your Internet connection instead of using the normal phone-line.

The good thing about this is that there are no expences for the phone company to maintain old copper-lines in the ground out to the subscriber, so it can offer calls for much lower prices than regular phone companies.

Usage examples

You can use it in many ways. One of the only requirements for all is that you need a broadband connection (an always-on connection to the Internet). There are many types of this, examples are: ADSL (from eg. Cybercity, TDC or Telia), Cable-Net (Webspeed or Stofanet).

Software IP-telephone.

The software IP-telephone is a small program you install on your PC. This setup requires that your PC has the following:

• Speakers.
• Microphone.

You will get the best sound if you buy a headset, you can find examples of headsets here: http://estation.dk/group.asp?group=44 (you can buy a headset in any store like Fona, Merlin, Bilka or Fotex - you shouldn't give more than 100kr for one for testing).

And then you need a small IP-telephone program installed. Again there are some alternatives available.

Hardware IP-telephone.

Whe you have tested the software IP-telephone, and you are satisfied with the outcome, you can buy a "real" IP-telephone. This is a small box, which you can connect between your normal phone and your Internet connection.

How to test it.

First, create an account with Musimi.dk

1. Go to this web-address: https://musimi.dk/index.php/login/register
2. Fill out the form with your informations. Brugernavn = username, Kodeord = kodeord, Gentag kodeord = repeat password, Navn = name, Adresse = address, Postnummer = zipcode, and finally put tick in the two checkboxes (to accept the conditions and rules of Musimi.dk).
3. Click on Opret Musimi konto.

Assign a number and configure your IP-telephone.

1. With the username and password you just created account, login (using login button at the top-right corner).
2. After login, go to this URL: https://musimi.dk/index.php/num/ (Min konto -> Numre)
3. In the dropdown list "Lokal numre", select a number and click on "Tilfoej nummer".
4. Now configure your IP-telephone with the number.
5. Try to make a call to number 6000 with your phone and check if it works.

Deposit some money into your account.

1. Go here (after login) and follow the descriptions: https://musimi.dk/index.php/shop/ Start with 100kr until you are sure it works as you like.
2. After deposit money, try to call eg. your cellphone from the IP-telephone.
3. You should now be able to make calls to your friends and family abroad :-)
